Japanese Bank Hikes Network Security

Page 13 -- Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi has installed IDS Balancer, a network security solution from Top Layer Networks, Westboro, Mass., in its New York office to help guard against network attacks.

The office already employs several intrusion detection systems (IDS), but because of the network architecture in place, the systems might only look at half the data flowing inbound and outbound. IDS Balancer aggregates the asymmetric flow of data so that each IDS sees the complete "conversation," both inbound and outbound, thus providing essential context and ensuring that the systems can detect all intrusions.

"The Top Layer IDS Balancer reduces false positives by enabling the IDSes to perform much more effectively," according to Shiming Yang, vice president of corporate data security at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. "The benefit of this stronger, context-aware surveillance of network traffic is our ability to detect otherwise missed attacks, thus reducing the level and cost of network support resources."

Top Layer's intrusion detection and prevention solutions augment other network security solutions, such as firewalls and IDS. The high-performance, ASIC-based solutions thwart attacks with pinpoint accuracy and precision blocking, while maximizing network performance and availability.
