Press ReleasesIDS Balancer Earns Common Criteria Certification Westboro, MA, September 20, 2004 - Top Layer Networks (www.TopLayer.com), a provider of globally proven intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that its IDS Balancer has achieved Common Criteria certification, a critical requirement for many government purchases of network security products. “Top Layer Networks has worked closely with government organizations for years to develop products that meet their rigorous requirements while delivering optimal performance and non-stop protection from cyber threats,” said Mike Paquette, vice president of technology at Top Layer Networks. “With Common Criteria certification, our government customers worldwide have assurances that our IDS Balancer meets the highest levels of reliability and security that federal and state government organizations demand.” Top Layer’s intrusion prevention technology is currently installed throughout several federal agencies in the Department of Defense and civilian sectors, as well as state governments. The Common Criteria evaluation process was created to evaluate IT product conformance to international security standards. Officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS), the program is a partnership between public and private sectors designed to help government organizations select commercial IT products that meet their security requirements http://niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/st/ST_VID3019.htm. “The goal of Common Criteria certification is to establish a baseline of quality that translates into a higher degree of protection from the growing number and intensity of cyber threats regardless of physical location around the globe,” said Jean Schaffer, director of the Validation Body for NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme. “Products that have passed Common Criteria certification enable organizations to be confident that they are deploying security measures that have been well-tested and intensely scrutinized to perform as they are written in their Security Target.” The IDS Balancer is an aggregation, filtering and load balancing appliance that reduces the capital, maintenance, and operations expenditures for network monitoring solutions such as network Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), network analyzers, forensics systems and content inspection engines, while increasing monitoring coverage. “Government organizations need technologies that will help them ensure protection from the various cyber threats they face – from hackers to worms and viruses to inappropriate Web access,” said David Gannon, senior software engineer and systems integrator from RS Information Systems at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “These customers also seek guidance from leaders like NIST on the right products, procedures and practices to implement. Top Layer’s IDS Balancer provides the flexibility and high performance that customers need, and now it gives government buyers the assurance of Common Criteria certification.” For more information about how Top Layer has partnered with U.S. government agencies to increase their intrusion detection and prevention capabilities, please contact federal@TopLayer.com or 540-972-5718.
