Press ReleasesIPS 5500 Intrusion Prevention System Customers Already Protected Against Latest Critical Microsoft Vulnerabilities Westboro, MA, August 11, 2005 - Top Layer Networks, the global leader for high performance intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that its Attack Mitigator IPS 5500 intrusion prevention system has already provided out-of-the-box protection for critical vulnerabilities disclosed earlier this week by Microsoft in its monthly vulnerabilities advisory. All versions of the IPS 5500 are factory-configured with protection mechanisms to stop the exploits of the following vulnerabilities:
Since there were no new protection mechanisms required, customers simply received an advisory that Top Layer’s recommended protection configurations proactively protected against exploits of these key vulnerabilities. Prior to the release of these Microsoft updates, the IPS 5500 was able to offer proactive protection for Top Layer customers from these vulnerabilities with its Microsoft Protocol Validation Module. Since Top Layer’s protocol validation modules use protocol anomaly detection to inspect all transactions for acceptable use of the appropriate protocol, exploits of these critical vulnerabilities are automatically blocked regardless of the attack method used. Peter Rendall, President and CEO of Top Layer Networks said, “Top Layer Networks is committed to providing our customers with robust intrusion prevention from content-based and rate-based cyber threats, from known attacks to zero-day exploits of vulnerabilities like those that Microsoft just announced. Top Layer’s approach to proactive protection and reliance on powerful mechanisms rather than the reactive stance and reliance on signatures that most other IPS solutions employ enables our customers to be better protected from most vulnerability exploits – even before they are announced.” For more information on the Microsoft vulnerabilities, click here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/default.mspx About the Attack Mitigator IPS 5500 The Attack Mitigator IPS 5500 family offers the strongest levels of Network IPS protection, performance and reliability on the market today.
