Top Layer Networks IPS 5500 Provides Zero-Day Protection Against SQL Injection Attack
Westboro, MA, January 18, 2008 - Top Layer’s TopResponse Research Team Advises Customers of Proactive Protection Against Critical Vulnerabilities
Top Layer Networks, a global leader for high performance intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that its IPS 5500 provides customers with Zero-Day protection against active SQL Injection attacks, which are currently resulting in the defacement of thousands of Web pages across the Internet, as reported by SANS . Top Layer’s TopResponse research team advised customers that they have been proactively protected against this threat and require no further action on their part.
The “uc8010.com” SQL injection attacks take advantage of remotely exploitable vulnerabilities found in applications that are not properly sanitizing input before using the input in a SQL query. The widespread attack involved the injection of a SQL statement into a number of database backends, using an HTTP query value. As a result, a remote attacker was able to insert a reference to an encoded malicious script into a number of database-driven websites. The IPS 5500 E-Series provides proactive protection against the described SQL injection vector.
“These SQL injection attacks are the latest in a series of exploits that plague the enterprise. By exploiting this vulnerability on a web application, legitimate users of that application could have their computers compromised with malware. This creates a situation where a website is causing damage to its own customers, leading to the loss of business by the owner of the web site,” said Mike Paquette, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Top Layer Networks. “The Top Layer IPS 5500 provides proactive protection for our customers against a variety of threats, including the recent Microsoft Remote Code Execution Vulnerability, against which our customers were provided with Zero-Day protection last week.”
